Hang back and the mephistos will not appear, letting you wait for the perfect time to pounce. Do not go out on the platforms right away. Attack the blue-glowing statue to make the statues start appearing.
But that's not fun-in order to do this mission the easy way, you need the Streak attack as well as the Calibur attack. The hard way is pretty clear-hop across the appearing platforms while dodging the mephisto attacks until you can safely make it to the alcove at the end of the path.
